Until Friday 24 October 2008: Chambers Gallery Exhibition - Modernism in Soviet Art

Show Runs until 24th October 2008

We present a spectacular collection of post-Stalinist Soviet art from the 1960s to the 1980s. The relaxation under Khruschev of socialist realist criteria allowed Soviet artists to explore foreign trends in modern art, experimenting with form, light and colour. Benefiting from this thaw, the paintings are stylistically fresh and innovative. There was an official tolerance (with limitations) of impressionism and post-impressionism, constructivism and expressionism. The show is an exciting opportunity to view some outstanding artists from one of the most intriguing and diverse periods of Soviet art.
