| | Jacqueline Ross of the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama is conducting violin masterclass at Lysenko Music School in Kyiv. This was organized by Yevgeniy Kostrytskyy, violinist and Artist Fellow of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Lysenko Music School, Kyiv, Ukraine 23 September 2008 at 13:00 Now living in the UK, Jacqueline is one of the few soloists performing on both modern and baroque violin. She now plays an extraordinary GB Guadagnini violin of 1777 made in Turin, and has also performed and recorded on a rare violin made by Andrea Amati in Cremona in 1570. This instrument is available to her on kind loan from the Chi Mei Foundation. The partnership has received high critical acclaim, most recently with the Complete Violin Sonatas and Partitas of JS Bach, all of which have been recorded for Sanctuary Classics. Her GB Guadagnini violin has been financed with kind help from N.W.Brown and Company.

Jacqueline was born in New York and studied at the Juilliard School of Music where she was a scholarship student of Joseph Fuchs. On receiving the Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees, she continued advanced studies in Cologne with Saschko Gawriloff, becoming his assistant.
She later studied in Amsterdam with the baroque specialist Lucy van Dael, with whom she has also recorded music for two violins. She appeared as a soloist at the Venice Biennale and Darmstadt Contemporary Music Festival where she won the Kranichsteiner Prize. Following this she broadcast as a solo artist on all the major radio stations throughout Europe.
In addition to her performing career, Jacqueline is a dedicated teacher and attracts an international following of advanced students. She is currently Professor of Violin, and Head of the String Department, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and is on the faculty of Bowdoin International Summer Festival in Maine and the Rencontres Internationales de Figeac in France.
She is regularly asked to adjudicate major competitions and give masterclasses nationally and internationally, which include visits to the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute, New England Conservatory, and Conservatories throughout Europe. |
